Choke (Strangle)
A choke, often referred to as a strangle, is a technique used in martial arts and self-defense to restrict airflow or blood flow to the brain. This is typically achieved by applying pressure to the neck, either by using the arms or a device. Chokes can be classified into two main types: air chokes, which block airflow, and blood chokes, which restrict blood flow through the carotid arteries.
Chokes are commonly practiced in disciplines such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, and mixed martial arts (MMA). While they can be effective in controlling an opponent, they also carry risks, including loss of consciousness or injury if applied improperly. Proper training and safety measures are essential when practicing these techniques.
