Chirk Aqueduct
The Chirk Aqueduct is a remarkable structure located in Wales, part of the Llangollen Canal. Completed in 1801, it was designed by the engineer Thomas Telford to carry the canal over the River Ceiriog. The aqueduct is 702 feet long and stands 70 feet high, making it one of the tallest aqueducts in the UK.
Constructed from stone and brick, the Chirk Aqueduct features a series of arches that support the canal above. It is a key part of the Ellesmere Canal system and is recognized as a significant engineering achievement of the Industrial Revolution, attracting visitors and boaters alike.
