Chilean sea lion
The Chilean sea lion (Otaria flavescens) is a marine mammal found along the coasts of South America, particularly in Chile and Peru. They are known for their robust bodies, external ear flaps, and thick fur, which can vary in color from light brown to dark brown. Adult males can weigh up to 800 pounds, while females are smaller, averaging around 200 pounds.
These sea lions are social animals, often seen in large colonies on rocky shores or beaches. They primarily feed on fish and squid, using their keen eyesight to hunt. The Chilean sea lion plays a vital role in the marine ecosystem, contributing to the balance of ocean life.
