Chemoreception
Chemoreception is the process by which organisms detect chemical stimuli in their environment. This ability allows them to sense changes in their surroundings, such as the presence of food, predators, or mates. Chemoreceptors, specialized sensory cells, are responsible for this detection and can be found in various organisms, including humans and insects.
In humans, chemoreception plays a crucial role in the senses of taste and smell. Taste buds on the tongue detect different flavors, while olfactory receptors in the nose identify various odors. Together, these senses help individuals navigate their environment and make decisions based on chemical cues.
