Chelyabinsk meteor
The Chelyabinsk meteor was a small asteroid that entered Earth's atmosphere on February 15, 2013. It exploded in a bright flash over the city of Chelyabinsk in Russia, releasing energy equivalent to about 470 kilotons of TNT. The explosion created a powerful shockwave that damaged over 7,000 buildings and injured around 1,500 people, mostly due to broken glass.
The meteor was approximately 20 meters in diameter and weighed about 13,000 metric tons before entering the atmosphere. It is one of the largest meteors to have entered Earth's atmosphere in over a century, providing valuable data for scientists studying asteroid impacts and planetary defense.
