Chashitsu
A Chashitsu, or tea room, is a traditional Japanese space designed for the practice of Chanoyu, the Japanese tea ceremony. These rooms are typically simple and serene, reflecting the principles of Wabi-Sabi, which emphasizes beauty in imperfection and transience. The design often includes natural materials like wood and paper, creating a calming atmosphere.
In a Chashitsu, the layout is carefully planned to facilitate the tea ceremony. Features may include a Tokonoma (alcove) for displaying art or flowers, and a Fusuma (sliding door) that separates the tea room from the outside world. The space encourages mindfulness and appreciation of the moment.
