Charles Willson Peale
Charles Willson Peale was an American painter, naturalist, and museum founder, born in 1741. He is best known for his portraits of prominent figures, including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Peale played a significant role in the American art scene during the 18th century and was a key figure in the development of American portraiture.
In addition to his artistic contributions, Peale was a pioneer in natural history. He established the first major museum in the United States, the Peale Museum, in Philadelphia.
