Charles Cornwallis
Charles Cornwallis was a British Army officer and colonial administrator born in 1738. He is best known for his role in the American Revolutionary War, where he served as a commander of British forces. Cornwallis led several campaigns, including the Siege of Yorktown in 1781, which ultimately resulted in a decisive defeat for the British.
After the American Revolution, Cornwallis became the Governor-General of India from 1786 to 1793. During his tenure, he implemented various reforms and played a significant role in expanding British control in the region. He passed away in 1805, leaving a complex legacy in both American and Indian history.
