Charismatic Authority
Charismatic authority is a concept developed by sociologist Max Weber to describe a form of leadership based on the personal qualities and charm of an individual. Leaders with charismatic authority inspire loyalty and devotion from their followers through their exceptional character, vision, or persuasive communication. This type of authority often emerges in times of crisis or social change, where traditional structures may be questioned.
Unlike traditional authority, which is based on established rules and norms, charismatic authority relies on the emotional connection between the leader and their followers. This relationship can lead to significant influence and mobilization, but it may also be unstable, as it depends heavily on the leader's presence and personal appeal.
