Chaim Vital
Chaim Vital was a prominent Jewish mystic and scholar born in 1542 in Safed, a center of Kabbalistic thought in Israel. He is best known for his writings on Kabbalah, particularly his work "Etz Hayim," which serves as a comprehensive commentary on the teachings of Isaac Luria, a key figure in the development of modern Kabbalistic thought.
Vital studied under Luria and became his primary disciple, helping to disseminate Lurianic Kabbalah throughout the Jewish world. His contributions significantly shaped Jewish mysticism, and his works continue to be studied by those interested in Kabbalistic philosophy and spirituality. Vital passed away in 1620.
