Chadian Politics
Chadian politics is characterized by a multi-party system, but it has often been dominated by a single party, the Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS). The political landscape has been shaped by decades of conflict, including civil wars and insurgencies, which have influenced governance and stability in the country.
The late president, Idriss Déby, ruled for over three decades until his death in 2021. Following his passing, a transitional military council led by his son, Mahamat Idriss Déby, took power, promising to hold elections and restore civilian rule, although the timeline for these elections remains uncertain.
