Cervical Spine
The cervical spine is the upper part of the spine that consists of seven vertebrae, labeled C1 to C7. It supports the head, allows for neck movement, and protects the spinal cord. The cervical spine is crucial for maintaining posture and enabling a range of motions, such as turning and tilting the head.
Each cervical vertebra has a unique structure, with the first two, C1 (atlas) and C2 (axis), allowing for rotation and nodding. The cervical spine also contains intervertebral discs that act as cushions between the vertebrae, helping to absorb shock and maintain flexibility.
