Ceroxylon quindiuense
Ceroxylon quindiuense, commonly known as the Quindio wax palm, is a species of palm tree native to the Andes mountains in Colombia. It is recognized for its tall, slender trunk, which can reach heights of up to 60 meters, making it one of the tallest palm species in the world. The tree thrives in high-altitude cloud forests and is often found at elevations between 1,800 and 2,500 meters.
The Quindio wax palm produces large, waxy fruits that are important for local wildlife, including birds and mammals. This species is also significant for its ecological role and cultural importance, as it is the national tree of Colombia. Conservation efforts are in place to protect its habitat, which is threatened by deforestation and climate change.
