Central Wintun
The Central Wintun are a Native American group primarily located in northern California. They are part of the larger Wintun linguistic family, which includes the Northern and Southern Wintun tribes. Historically, the Central Wintun inhabited areas around the Sacramento River and were known for their fishing, hunting, and gathering practices.
Central Wintun society was organized into small villages, each led by a chief. They spoke the Central Wintun language, which is now considered endangered. Traditional crafts included basket weaving and tool making, reflecting their deep connection to the natural environment and resources available in their territory.
