Cecrops
Cecrops was a legendary figure in ancient Greek mythology, often depicted as a half-man, half-serpent creature. He is best known as the first king of Athens and is credited with establishing many of the city's early customs and laws. Cecrops is also associated with the founding of the Panathenaic Festival, a significant celebration in honor of the goddess Athena.
In mythology, Cecrops played a crucial role in the contest between Athena and Poseidon for the patronage of Athens. He chose Athena as the victor after she offered the olive tree, which was deemed more valuable than Poseidon's gift of a saltwater spring. This decision solidified Athena's status as the city's protector.
