Catherine of Cleves
Catherine of Cleves was a noblewoman born around 1417 in the region of Cleves, now part of modern-day Germany. She was the daughter of John I, Duke of Cleves and Maria of Geldern. Catherine became the Duchess of Guelders through her marriage to Arnold, Duke of Guelders in 1430, strengthening political alliances in the region.
Catherine is best known for her role in the House of Cleves, which played a significant part in the politics of the Low Countries during the 15th century. Her lineage and marriage connections contributed to the complex web of noble families in Europe at the time.
