Cathedral of Etchmiadzin
The Cathedral of Etchmiadzin is the oldest cathedral in Armenia and serves as the spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Built in the early 4th century, it is located in the city of Vagharshapat and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cathedral features a unique architectural style that combines elements of early Christian and Armenian design.
The cathedral is significant for its historical and religious importance, as it was the first church built after Armenia adopted Christianity as its state religion in 301 AD. It houses various relics and artifacts, including the Holy Lance, believed to have pierced the side of Jesus Christ.
