Catgut
Catgut is a type of cord made from the natural fibers of animal intestines, primarily from sheep or goats. It has been used for centuries in various applications, including surgical sutures, musical instrument strings, and tennis racquet strings. The name "catgut" is misleading, as it does not come from cats.
The production of catgut involves cleaning and processing the intestines to create a strong, flexible material. Although synthetic alternatives are now more common, catgut remains valued in certain fields, particularly in classical music for its unique tonal qualities in instruments like violins and cellos.
