Cassini Division
The Cassini Division is a prominent gap in the rings of the planet Saturn. It was discovered by the Italian astronomer Giovanni Domenico Cassini in 1675. This division is about 4,800 kilometers wide and separates the outer A ring from the inner B ring of Saturn's ring system.
The Cassini Division is primarily composed of particles that are less dense than those in the surrounding rings. The gap is maintained by the gravitational influence of Saturn's moons, particularly Mimas, which helps to clear out debris in this region. This fascinating feature is a key area of study in planetary science.
