Caryatids
Caryatids are sculpted female figures that serve as architectural supports, replacing traditional columns. They are often found in classical buildings, particularly in ancient Greek architecture, where they add both structural and aesthetic value. The most famous example is the Erechtheion on the Acropolis of Athens, which features six caryatids on its porch.
These figures typically depict women in flowing garments, standing upright with their arms at their sides or holding objects. Caryatids symbolize grace and strength, blending art with functionality. They have inspired various artistic interpretations throughout history, appearing in different cultures and styles beyond their original context.
