Carnaval de Oruro
The Carnaval de Oruro is a traditional festival held annually in Oruro, Bolivia. Recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, it features a vibrant display of music, dance, and colorful costumes. The event typically takes place in February or March, coinciding with the Catholic observance of Lent.
During the carnaval, various groups perform traditional dances, such as the Diablada and Moreno, representing indigenous and colonial influences. The festival also includes a religious component, honoring the Virgin of Socavón, the patron saint of miners. This unique blend of culture and spirituality attracts thousands of visitors each year.
