Carlos Linnaeus
Carlos Linnaeus, also known as Carl Linnaeus, was an 18th-century Swedish botanist and physician. He is best known for developing the system of binomial nomenclature, which is a formal system for naming species. This system uses two Latin names: the first for the genus and the second for the species, making it easier to identify and classify living organisms.
Linnaeus published several important works, including Species Plantarum, which laid the foundation for modern taxonomy. His classification system organized plants and animals into hierarchical categories, such as kingdom, class, order, genus, and species. Linnaeus's contributions significantly advanced the field of biology and helped scientists communicate more effectively about the natural world.
