Cardboard Cathedral
The Cardboard Cathedral is an innovative structure located in Christchurch, New Zealand. Designed by architect Shigeru Ban, it was built as a temporary replacement for the original Christchurch Cathedral, which was severely damaged in the 2011 earthquake. The cathedral is made primarily of cardboard tubes, wood, and other sustainable materials, showcasing a unique approach to architecture.
Completed in 2013, the Cardboard Cathedral can accommodate around 700 people. Its design features a triangular shape and large stained glass windows, creating a bright and welcoming interior. The building serves as a symbol of resilience and hope for the local community, reflecting the spirit of recovery after the disaster.
