Captain's Mast
A "Captain's Mast" is a disciplinary hearing in the military, particularly in the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard. It allows a commanding officer, or captain, to address minor offenses committed by service members without resorting to a court-martial. The process is typically less formal and can result in various penalties, such as extra duties, reduction in rank, or confinement.
During a Captain's Mast, the accused service member has the opportunity to present their case and may have a representative present. The captain reviews the evidence and makes a decision based on the circumstances of the offense and the service member's record.
