Cape Floral Kingdom
The Cape Floral Kingdom is a unique and diverse region located in the southwestern part of South Africa. It is one of the world's six floral kingdoms and is recognized for its high levels of plant endemism, meaning many species are found nowhere else on Earth. The area is home to over 9,000 plant species, including the famous fynbos vegetation, which thrives in its Mediterranean climate.
This region covers approximately 90,000 square kilometers and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Cape Floral Kingdom is particularly known for its rich biodiversity, including various species of proteas, ericas, and restios. Conservation efforts are crucial to protect this fragile ecosystem from threats like urban development and climate change.
