Canker Disease
Canker disease refers to a variety of plant diseases characterized by the formation of lesions or cankers on stems, branches, or trunks. These lesions can disrupt the plant's ability to transport water and nutrients, leading to wilting, dieback, and even death. Common causes include fungal pathogens, such as Cytospora and Botryosphaeria, as well as bacterial infections.
Canker disease can affect many types of plants, including trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants. Symptoms often include sunken, discolored areas on the bark, which may ooze sap. Proper management involves maintaining plant health, ensuring good air circulation, and removing infected plant material to prevent the spread of the disease.
