Candlepin Bowling
Candlepin Bowling is a variation of bowling that originated in New England. It features tall, slender pins that resemble candles, hence the name. Players roll a small ball down a narrow lane to knock down the pins, which stand upright after being hit. Each player has three rolls per frame, allowing for more opportunities to knock down pins.
In Candlepin Bowling, the scoring system is unique. Players earn points for each pin knocked down, and they can also score additional points by knocking down pins that were left standing after their first roll. This game is popular in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.
