California desert tortoise
The California desert tortoise is a slow-moving reptile native to the arid regions of the Mojave Desert in California. It has a distinctive, dome-shaped shell that can grow up to 15 inches long. This tortoise primarily feeds on grasses, wildflowers, and other desert vegetation, making it an important part of its ecosystem.
These tortoises are well-adapted to their harsh environment, capable of surviving long periods without water. They spend much of their time in burrows to escape extreme temperatures. Unfortunately, the California desert tortoise is considered a threatened species due to habitat loss and other human activities.
