Calcification
Calcification is a biological process where calcium salts accumulate in body tissues. This can occur in various forms, such as in bones, where it is essential for strength and structure, or in soft tissues, which can lead to health issues. Calcification can be a normal part of aging or a response to injury or inflammation.
There are two main types of calcification: dystrophic calcification, which occurs in damaged tissues, and metastatic calcification, which happens when there is an excess of calcium in the blood. Understanding calcification is important for diagnosing and treating various medical conditions.
