Cadmus is a figure from ancient Greek mythology, known as the founder of the city of Thebes. He was the son of Agenor, the king of Tyre, and was sent on a quest to find his sister, Europa, who had been abducted by Zeus. In his search, Cadmus consulted the oracle of Delphi, which instructed him to follow a cow and build a city where it lay down.
After following the cow, Cadmus established Thebes and became its first king.
