CSS Alabama
CSS Alabama was a Confederate Navy warship during the American Civil War. Launched in 1862, it was a steam-powered commerce raider designed to disrupt Union shipping. The ship was known for its speed and agility, allowing it to capture or destroy numerous merchant vessels.
Under the command of Captain Raphael Semmes, CSS Alabama became famous for its successful raids across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The ship was ultimately sunk in 1864 off the coast of Cherbourg, France by the USS Kearsarge, marking a significant loss for the Confederate Navy.
