CAR T-cell therapy
CAR T-cell therapy is a type of cancer treatment that uses a patient’s own immune cells to fight cancer. In this process, T-cells, a kind of white blood cell, are collected from the patient’s blood and modified in a laboratory to express a special receptor called a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR). This receptor helps the T-cells recognize and attack cancer cells more effectively.
After the T-cells are modified, they are infused back into the patient’s body. Once inside, these enhanced T-cells can identify and destroy cancer cells that have specific markers. CAR T-cell therapy has shown promising results, especially in treating certain types of blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma.
