C/2014 Q2
C/2014 Q2, also known as Comet Lovejoy, is a long-period comet discovered by Australian astronomer Terry Lovejoy in August 2014. It is notable for its bright appearance and was visible to the naked eye during its closest approach to the Sun in January 2015. The comet's orbit takes it around the Sun approximately every 11,000 years.
The comet's nucleus is estimated to be about 1.5 kilometers in diameter, and it features a long, bright tail made of gas and dust. As it approached the Sun, the heat caused the comet to release gases, creating a spectacular display for skywatchers. C/2014 Q2 provided valuable insights into the composition of comets and the early solar system.
