Comet Lovejoy
Comet Lovejoy is a periodic comet discovered by Australian amateur astronomer Terry Lovejoy in 2011. It is officially designated as C/2011 W3 and is known for its bright green coma and long tail, which are typical features of comets as they approach the Sun. The comet made its closest approach to Earth in December 2011, providing a spectacular view for skywatchers.
This comet is part of a family of comets that originate from the Oort Cloud, a distant region of our solar system filled with icy bodies. Comet Lovejoy has a relatively short orbital period, taking about 8,000 years to complete one orbit around the Sun. Its appearance has contributed to our understanding of cometary behavior and composition.
