Bumiputera
"Bumiputera" is a term used in Malaysia to refer to the indigenous people of the country, including the Malay ethnic group and various indigenous tribes. The term translates to "sons of the soil" and signifies their historical and cultural connection to the land. Bumiputera status grants certain privileges and benefits, particularly in areas like education, business, and government employment, aimed at promoting their socio-economic development.
The Bumiputera policy was introduced in the 1970s as part of the New Economic Policy (NEP) to address economic disparities between different ethnic groups, particularly between the Bumiputera and the Chinese and Indian communities in Malaysia. This policy has been a significant aspect of Malaysia's socio-economic landscape, influencing various sectors and policies over the decades
