Buddhadasa Bhikkhu
Buddhadasa Bhikkhu was a prominent Thai Buddhist monk and philosopher, born in 1906 and passing away in 1993. He is best known for his efforts to modernize and interpret Theravada Buddhism in a way that made it more accessible to contemporary society. His teachings emphasized the importance of understanding the core principles of Buddhism rather than adhering strictly to rituals.
He founded the Suan Mokkh (Garden of Liberation) monastery in southern Thailand, which became a center for meditation and Buddhist education. His writings and lectures focused on the practical application of Buddhist teachings in daily life, promoting a message of compassion, mindfulness, and social engagement.
