Buckeyes
Buckeyes are a type of nut produced by the Ohio buckeye tree, known scientifically as Aesculus glabra. These nuts are typically brown with a lighter tan spot, resembling the eye of a deer, which is how they got their name. While they are not edible for humans, they are often used in crafts and as a symbol of the state of Ohio.
In addition to the nut, "Buckeyes" also refers to a popular chocolate and peanut butter candy. This treat consists of a creamy peanut butter filling coated in chocolate, resembling the nut itself. Buckeye candies are especially popular during holidays and celebrations in the Midwestern United States.
