Bubble Boy Syndrome
Bubble Boy Syndrome, also known as Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID), is a rare genetic disorder that severely weakens the immune system. Individuals with this condition are unable to fight off infections, making them highly vulnerable to germs and diseases.
To protect themselves, some patients have lived in sterile environments, often referred to as "bubble" environments. These controlled spaces help prevent exposure to harmful pathogens, allowing individuals to live safely while managing their condition. Treatment options include gene therapy and bone marrow transplants, which aim to restore immune function.
