Bubastis
Bubastis was an ancient city in Egypt, known as the center of worship for the goddess Bastet. Located in the Nile Delta, it was a significant urban area during the time of the Pharaohs. The city was famous for its grand temples and festivals, particularly the annual Bastet festival, which attracted thousands of pilgrims.
The city was also known for its cat population, as Bastet was often depicted as a lioness or a domestic cat. Cats were revered in Bubastis, and many were mummified and buried in sacred cemeteries. Today, the ruins of Bubastis can be found near the modern town of Tell Basta.
