Brussels Fortifications
The Brussels Fortifications were a series of defensive structures built around the city of Brussels, Belgium, primarily during the 16th and 17th centuries. These fortifications were designed to protect the city from invasions and included walls, bastions, and gates. The most notable feature was the Brussels City Wall, which encircled the city and was reinforced over time.
In the 19th century, the fortifications were largely dismantled to make way for urban expansion. Today, remnants of the fortifications can still be seen in various parts of the city, serving as historical landmarks that reflect Brussels' rich military history.
