Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Corporation
The Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Corporation (BMT) was a major public transportation company in New York City, primarily operating subway and elevated train services. Established in 1923, it played a crucial role in connecting the boroughs of Brooklyn and Manhattan, facilitating the daily commute for thousands of residents.
In 1940, the BMT was merged into the newly formed New York City Transit Authority, which consolidated various transit systems under one management. The BMT's legacy continues today, as many of its lines and services are still in operation, contributing to the extensive New York City Subway network.
