British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC)
The British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) was a British airline established in 1940. It was created to operate international flights and was known for its long-haul services connecting the United Kingdom with destinations around the world. BOAC played a significant role in the development of commercial aviation during the mid-20th century.
In 1974, BOAC merged with British European Airways (BEA) to form British Airways, which became the flag carrier of the United Kingdom. BOAC was recognized for its pioneering efforts in air travel, including the introduction of jet aircraft and advancements in passenger comfort and safety.
