British Ceylon
British Ceylon refers to the period when the island of Ceylon, now known as Sri Lanka, was under British colonial rule from 1815 to 1948. The British took control after the Kandyan Wars, establishing a colonial administration that significantly impacted the island's economy, society, and culture. They introduced tea, coffee, and rubber plantations, which transformed the agricultural landscape.
During British rule, Ceylon experienced infrastructural development, including the construction of roads, railways, and schools. The colonial government also implemented a system of governance that included local councils. Ceylon gained independence in 1948, marking the end of British colonial influence.
