Braxton Hicks contractions
Braxton Hicks contractions are often referred to as "practice contractions" that occur during pregnancy. They are usually irregular and can start as early as the second trimester. These contractions help the uterus prepare for labor by toning the muscles and promoting blood flow.
Unlike true labor contractions, Braxton Hicks are typically not painful and do not lead to cervical dilation. They may feel like a tightening or hardening of the abdomen and can vary in frequency and intensity. Staying hydrated and changing positions can help alleviate any discomfort associated with these contractions.
