Box-and-One Defense
The Box-and-One Defense is a basketball strategy used to limit the scoring of a specific player while maintaining overall team defense. In this formation, four defenders create a box shape around the key area, focusing on protecting the paint and rebounding. Meanwhile, one defender is assigned to closely guard the opposing team's best scorer, often following them around the court.
This defensive approach is particularly effective against teams that rely heavily on one standout player, as it disrupts their offensive flow. By combining man-to-man coverage on the key player with zone principles for the rest, the Box-and-One aims to force other players to step up and contribute.
