Bowman's capsule
Bowman's capsule is a cup-shaped structure located at the beginning of each nephron in the kidney. It surrounds the glomerulus, a network of tiny blood vessels, and plays a crucial role in the filtration of blood. As blood flows through the glomerulus, water, ions, and small molecules are filtered into the Bowman's capsule, forming a fluid called filtrate.
The primary function of Bowman's capsule is to collect this filtrate, which then passes into the renal tubules for further processing. This process is essential for maintaining the body's fluid and electrolyte balance, ultimately contributing to the formation of urine.
