Bothrops Asper
Bothrops asper, commonly known as the fer-de-lance, is a venomous pit viper found in Central and South America. This snake is recognized for its distinctive triangular head and can vary in color, often displaying shades of brown, gray, or green. It typically inhabits tropical rainforests, but can also be found in agricultural areas.
The fer-de-lance is known for its potent venom, which can cause severe tissue damage and is responsible for a significant number of snakebite incidents in its range. It primarily feeds on small mammals and birds, using its heat-sensing pits to detect warm-blooded prey.
