Boroughs of Alaska
Alaska is divided into several regions known as boroughs, which function similarly to counties in other states. There are 19 organized boroughs and one unorganized borough, which covers areas without a local government. Each borough has its own governing body and is responsible for local services like education, public safety, and infrastructure.
The largest borough by area is the North Slope Borough, known for its vast wilderness and oil production. In contrast, the Anchorage Borough is the most populous, housing nearly 40% of Alaska's residents. These boroughs reflect the diverse geography and communities found throughout the state.
