Bordetella Bronchiseptica
Bordetella bronchiseptica is a type of bacteria that primarily affects the respiratory system of animals, particularly dogs and cats. It is known to cause kennel cough, a contagious respiratory illness characterized by a persistent cough. This bacterium can also infect other animals, including pigs and rabbits, leading to similar respiratory issues.
In addition to causing illness in pets, Bordetella bronchiseptica can sometimes be transmitted to humans, although this is rare. Vaccines are available for pets to help prevent infection, especially in environments where animals are in close contact, such as shelters or boarding facilities.
