Boon Island Light
Boon Island Light is a historic lighthouse located on Boon Island, off the coast of Maine. It was first established in 1855 to help guide ships safely through the treacherous waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The lighthouse stands 133 feet tall, making it one of the tallest in the United States.
The structure is made of granite and features a distinctive black and white striped pattern. It is still an active aid to navigation, operated by the U.S. Coast Guard. Visitors can view the lighthouse from nearby boats, as it is not open to the public for climbing.
